AELTC development opposition

On 29 September 2021 we submitted a letter to Merton Council, copied to Stephen Hammond MP, outlining our objections to the proposed AELTC Wimbleon Park Project. We called for the application to be rejected on the basis of the enormous harm we believe it will cause to the local environment, biodiversity, air quality and natural heritage.

Our reasons for opposing the application include the felling of hundreds of mature trees, the carbon footprint of the tennis championship, reduced public access to parkland and the protected status of the land on which the expansion will be built.

We join many other local residents and groups objecting to the expansion and await Merton Council’s decision on the AELTC’s planning application.
