Pollinators

We’re working to protect bees and other pollinators, support biodiversity and prevent the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides in Merton.

Save our bees

Bees, butterflies and other pollinators are vital members of the ecosystem and essential to our food production systems. Plus their biodiversity and that of the plants they pollinate allow nature to flourish.

Yet bees and other pollinators are severely threatened by factors such as pesticides, habitat loss and climate change.

What we’re doing

  • Protecting pollinators

Thanks to the support of Groundwork London, we protect bees, butterflies and wider biodiversity via our Pollinators’ Corner project, a collection of raised beds and grassy verges brimming with pollinator-friendly plants.

  • Opposing harmful chemicals

We take a stand against harmful chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides and have recently submitted an information request to Merton Council regarding its use of glyphosate.

Other ways you can help

Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland is campaigning to save our bees. You can get involved by learning about the causes of bee decline, purchasing a Bee Saver Kit or petitioning against pesticide use.
